    International Baccalaureate® Diploma Programme

    14 October 2019
The “Rudolf Steiner School of Lugano Origlio” is an authorized school for the IB® Diploma Program. Our school has completed the authorization process as IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy – a commitment to high quality, inspiring international education – which we believe is important for our students. The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Program (DP) is a program aimed at students aged 16-19. It is accepted by leading universities around the world. What the DP offers students The program includes six thematic groups and the basic curriculum. The latter includes the theory of knowledge (TdC), creativity, action, service (CAS) and memory. Through the main curriculum of the Diploma Program, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, conduct independent research and carry out a project that often includes community service.

    Ukulele workshop

    24 August 2021
(Friday afternoon) The intrument The ukulele is a real musical instrument, originally from Hawaii, which is lucky enough to be small and therefore within the reach of children. It is also a tool that allows you to approach and develop the main elements of music: rhythm, harmony, melody and the ability to sing, that is, to express oneself with the personal instrument of the voice. With little technical knowledge of the instrument it is possible to actively participate, and thanks to the strength of the group, in the musical situations that are proposed. The workshop Singing and ukulele are the strength of the workshop. Vocal expression and experimentation with the use of a musical instrument allow us to create an environment of education to music, sociality and creativity. We learn to play and sing songs and invent new ones together; we face the rhythm with the game, with the voice, with the body and with the instrument; we give birth to musical ideas and we share them. In this way, the ear and the musical mind can only gradually form and develop, so that in the future the ukulele workshop was a prerequisite for directing one’s interest in music towards other musical instruments as well. Mode We propose the formation of groups (max 10 participants) based on age groups: • 7-10 years • 11-13 years * The purchase of the instrument is recommended, however some ukuleles will be made available. Cost Packages of 10 lessons – 100 CHF.

    The Maggiolata

    10 November 2020
May is back… As per the tradition of our Ticino area, in the first days of the month the nursery garden is filled with celebration. On the day of the “Maggiolata”, parents, children and teachers welcome May with songs, dances and games, ending the morning with a rich snack offered by all parents. It has always been a time of great celebration, joy and sharing; these photos are proof of this and even if this year the situation will not allow us to celebrate together, we are sure that each of us in our hearts, will be able to enjoy every rebirth to feel part of the whole community. “Il bel maggio è tornato con i fiori e il bel sol il bel maggio è tornato con i fiori e il bel sol tra la la la la la la tra la la la la tra la la la la la la la tra la la la la la la tra la la la la tra la la la la la la la. …e lo cantan tutti i bimbi lo cantiamo tutti insiem e lo cantan tutti i bimbi lo cantiamo tutti insiem tra la la la la la la tra la la la la tra la la la la la la la tra la la la la la la tra la la la la tra la la la la la la la.

Measures taken by the school during the emergency period

    15 March 2020
15.03.2020 Dear parents, teachers, friends, some positions were clarified over the weekend and new restrictive measures were issued by the federal and cantonal authorities. In the Lugano-Origlio school we will continue to follow the directives of the Council of State, doing our utmost to offer the services provided. CLOSING The school will be closed for all order and grade classes from Monday 16 March 2020, for the time being until Saturday 4 April 2020. We hope that this date will be kept, eventually we will update you if there were any extensions. SECRETARIAT We will try to guarantee a minimum secretarial service to carry out the administrative part, in the presence or by transmitting calls and emails to our contact details. Some cleaning shifts will be maintained. The school buildings remain accessible to teachers who must be able to be found and who can use classrooms, libraries and computers, keeping the necessary precautions. CUSTODY The directives issued at the time ask us to guarantee, during school hours, a custody service for parents with real and essential work needs. Custody can manage pupils from kindergarten to ninth class. We kindly ask parents who absolutely need custody for their children to contact the school directly today, Sunday 15 March, or at least Monday morning before 11.00, via the address [email protected] indicating days, schedules and motivating your request. The custody will be active as per Tuesday 17 March 2020 in the usual school hours and the canteen will be guaranteed for members and support staff. HOLIDAY OF SAN GIUSEPPE The San Giuseppe holiday, with the total closure of shops from 19th to 22nd March, is not yet confirmed by official press releases. In this case also the custody would be suspended. We will be able to give you more information by Tuesday. ORDINARY SHAREHOLDERS ‘MEETING Assemblies with more than 30 people are prohibited in the latest directives. This being the case, and considering the statute that does not allow for power of attorney or vote by post, the meeting of 20 March must be postponed. Below are the links to the guidelines for completeness of information (in Italian). We hope that with the arrival of spring the emergency will be reduced quickly, and we wish all of us to be able to reopen and start our normal activities with serenity as soon as possible. A warm hug, The Committee

    Suspension of face-to-face lessons

    14 March 2020
13.03.2020 Dear parents, teachers, friends, in today’s session, the Federal Council has decided that all schools of all grades and all kindergartens will no longer be able to offer lessons in the presence of pupils, from now until 3 April inclusive. We therefore expect a long period of closure as a preventive measure to slow down the spread of COVID-19. Even the nursery, except in cases of absolute and proven necessity, is forced to stop the service. We will understand in the coming days if any form of custody can still be provided, as anticipated by the cantonal press release this morning, also in collaboration with the public body, and with what limitations. In the coming days, the college will study remote working methods compatible with our pedagogy, in collaboration with families and with a view to maintaining healthy rhythms even in this situation. We will come back to you as soon as possible to update you on all these elements. For the IB verification visit, which was scheduled for 2 and 3 April, we are evaluating whether to take advantage of the possibility of doing it remotely or whether to postpone it for the earliest possible date and in any case in good time so as not to interfere with the established program. In this the IBO is extremely collaborative, well understanding that they are not things that depend on us. Best regards The Committee
